When you purchase a house in France it is "as seen" and it is up to you to assess the condition and any defects that there may be. Surprisingly, surveys are relatively rare and there is therefore not a ready availability of surveyors to undertake pre-purchase inspections. The UK style survey, taking in things like the condition of the wall-paper, the depth of insulation in the attic, etc, does not exist in French property transactions.

yourself to buy, you may wish to have an idea of the likely cost of any
necessary repairs, or of the changes that you may want to make, or of

is obviously impossible to be completely accurate without detailed specifications

There are five mandatory reports that are prepared, usually between the intial sale contract and the final signing. These are handled by independent acredited specialists and the cost is covered by the seller.

-Condition of the gas installation
-Overall energy consumption rating
As these are in French and include technical terms, you are wise to seek help and advice in order to understand any factors that may have come to light.
